About

Dayna Sordam was born in Amsterdam, The Netherlands on April 7th 1989. From age 2 until 20 she lived in Paramaribo, Suriname. After finishing high school, she moved to The Hague, The Netherlands to study Business Economics at The Hague University of Applied Science. Since 2015 she has worked for the operations department of asset managers. In 2016 she got her Bachelor degree in Business Economics.

Dayna did not plan to be an artist. Art was not part of her life during her teenage years. The only way she expressed some of her artistic abilities was during art classes in elementary and high school. Dayna had a 5 year plan. “I was planning to move to The Netherlands, study Business Economics, get my master degree and work for a hotel chain.” But when she came to The Netherlands, the plan went off course. “There was one night in 2014 when I was inspired by something. Can’t remember if it was something I saw on television or on the internet. But before I fell asleep that night I felt that I wanted to make a painting. I had an idea and was determent to implement it. So the next day I woke up, went to the city center and bought art supplies.”  That was the day painting started as a hobby for her. From that day she painted daily and tried out different techniques. As it never crossed her mind that this hobby would be something she wanted to do for the rest of her life, she realized that this was the moment when she would not live without art.

Her artworks’ main focus is abstraction. She uses different techniques for her variation of paintings.  She makes abstract art created by lines or dots, abstract art with a 3D effect, abstract art where she expresses her emotions, fluid acrylic paint by mixing different colored paint and pouring it over a canvas and a combination of the above. Dayna’s artworks are abstract in order for her viewers to make use of their emotions and imagination. When someone looks at her paintings the viewer can see what their imagination pushes them to and can feel what their emotions let them express. This is the reason why she categorized her paintings in three different sections: Signature paintings, Fluid paintings and Abstract paintings. Not giving viewers an idea what they need to see in her paintings. The first thing people notice about her paintings is that Dayna has patience to make them especially when it comes to the signature paintings with different colored lines.

It never crossed Dayna’s mind that she has this talent inside of her. But when she realized that this was something she wanted to do for the rest of her life, it led her to develop her artistic abilities. This is the reason she took a year off from working to fully commit herself to her painting. “I will keep pursuing to develop myself and will never give up making this hobby into a career. “
